§ Conferences : Moscou ( ?) - UK teachers, Oxford.
§ Contacts with students in pre-in (DK) and candidate countries (Romania)
R. KARSENTI pays tribute to J.J. SCHUL's work over all these years and insists on his tenacity in developing these programmes. On return, J.J SCHUL thanks R. KARSENTI for his continued support with EIB's management. E. VAES also thanks J.J. SCHUL.
P. MARCHAT is convinced that it would be a pity to loose PROMEURO's experience like that of other similar organisations such as the Institut de l'euro à Lyon, for instance. He believes that the academic world might be interested. J.J. SCHUL indicates that the University of Louvain-la-Neuve has expressed interest in
PROMEURO's archives. He will enquire whether they are interested in managing PROMEURO's education programme.
After having fulfilled its role (promotion of the euro), M. ULHMAN thinks that PROMEURO should now stop except if another organisation (University) wishes to continue.
J-J. SCHUL recalls the position of M. OSTERRIETH who feels that the extention of ROMEURO's activities depends on the renewal of its management and Presidency.
5. Election of Board Members in case of prolongation of PROMEURO's activities :
No election since no new activities.
J.J. SCHUL will play the role of liquidator (Statutes require that he carry the title of President to approve expenditures)
A working party is created with the following members :
G. BASYN, M. LITTLEJOHN, E. VAES,
BEI : R. KARSENTI, U. UHLMAN.
FEDERALISTS : G. RASTRELLI, H. DE VIRON.
The purpose of the group is to control the implementation of residual activities and study the most suitable destination of PROMEURO's assets in conformity with article 22 .
G. BASYN suggests that PROMEURO could be rebaptised into « PROMEUROPE » whose purpose would be to develop European citizenship and for example the use of the esperanto because he is convinced that after a single currency, and common language would be beneficial ( it would foster a better understanding among people). Documents were distributed at the meeting. »
Hence, the association « PROMEURO » will continue its activities momentarily until the new committee takes a decision. This transitional period cannot last longer than one year.
6. Miscellaneaous
J.J. SCHUL once more thanks all those who for all these years supported PROMEURO's activities and particularly Misses M. Welfringer, E. Martinelli of SOFTE, A. Wangen and M-A. Richard for their efficient and faithful assistance.
M. WELFRINGER closes the debate indicating that she had found that working for PROMEURO had been stimulating by its numerous contacts and diversified business environment.
