European Development Youth Prize 2008/09
European Development Youth Prize 2008/09
Win a trip to Africa! Deadline 31 May 2009
Further information >> french german english
Dear Teachers,
we are very happy to invite you and your pupils to take part in the Development Youth Prize and perhaps win a trip to Africa! The Development Youth Prize is a unique school competition that is now in its third edition.
The focus this year is on 'Human Development' and your pupils can work on three new themes:
- gender equality
- children and youth
- cultural diversity.
The students should again be aged 16 - 18 years. Submissions are possible as posters or as videos this year. All entries can be uploaded directly on the website or be sent to the EUN office (address please see below).
NEW !!!!
This year we have further teaching materials on the portal to give schools the opportunity to go a step further. In the library section on the website schools can find a pedagogical kit that helps teachers and pupils to get a better understanding of development cooperation by working on a case study based on real facts. In a summarised version they find relevant information about the specific development issues of a central African country. A problem solving methodology helps to work on this real case and come to reasonable solutions. Additional country information helps to embed the case study into the country’s context.
The case study and the methodology are provided by EuropeAid, the Commission's co-operation office which manages EU external aid programmes.
The national winners and runners-up in each country will be invited together with their teachers for a two-day stay in Stockholm at the next European Development Days in October 2009. This visit will include a prize-giving ceremony where pupils will be awarded their prizes. The winners will also visit an African country, for a very special opportunity to see how development cooperation between Europe and Africa works on the ground.
The Ministries of Foreign Affairs in all the EU Member States have already been informed about this competition. Furthermore the Ministries of Education will be contacted and asked to invite schools in their country to participate in this competition.
The Ministries of Education and Development in all the European countries will carry out the first phase of the evaluation process at national level, coordinated by European Schoolnet in Brussels. A grand jury of experts in development education, arts and ICT will then select the national winners and runners-up from the national shortlists.
The deadline for submissions will be 31 May 2009. Until then we want to give as many pupils as possible the opportunity to take part in this competition.
The Development Youth Prize competition for schools is financed by the European Commission's DG Development and it is organized by European Schoolnet.
Your contact for the project is Ms Sylvia Binger (sylvia.binger(at)eun.org).
Please find more information about the competition here: http://www.dyp2008.org
Hope to see your pupils’ entries soon!
Kind regards,
Sylvia Binger
